The sample size of the data set allows for disaggregation by occupation more at the region level than at the parish level. Also due to the sample size, it is not possible to arrive at reliable estimates of numbers of workers by occupation for all regions in all occupations.
As guidance, the R&E Unit is using an unemployment rate of 7% or lower to indicate “shortage” versus “surplus” (over 7%) in a given occupational group, also taking into account the qualification profile of the workforce in the occupation.
Typically, annual turnover in an occupational area is around 8% due to attrition, creating new opportunities for jobs through replacement. In some jobs, attrition may be substantially higher.
